Delete all Reddit comments: what Reddit allows

Reddit has no way to delete all Reddit comments at once, and deleting your account leaves them up. Here's what Reddit does let you do, and in what order.
If you want to delete all Reddit comments you've ever made, start with the fact most people miss: deleting your Reddit account doesn't delete them. Reddit's own help says your posts and comments stay up, with your name taken off, and that you need to delete them before you delete the account. Reddit has no button that deletes every comment, so this guide covers what it does offer, and the order that saves you from regret.
- 1Open the ⋯ menuAt the bottom of the comment
- 2Delete CommentThen confirm
Final: it can’t be restored
Not with a button. Reddit's help describes deleting comments one at a time, from the list of comments on your profile. It also offers a way out if you have far too many: if you need to delete a large number of posts or comments and can't do it by following its steps, you can email redditdatarequests@reddit.com from the email address you verified on your Reddit account, or use Reddit's request form, and ask for help.
Whichever you choose, deleting is final. Reddit says moderators and its administrators can't bring back a post or comment you've deleted.
Before
After the account is deleted
The words stayPeople can’t see who wrote them
No. When you delete your account, Reddit removes your profile and takes your username off your post history, comment history, karma and the rest of your profile. Anyone who opens your profile is told the account has been deleted. But every post and comment you made stays on Reddit; people just can't see who it came from. The same goes for your messages and chats.
So if you want your words gone, and not only your name, delete them first. Deleting the account comes last, and it can't be undone: the account can't be reactivated, the username can't be used again, and you lose access to your post and comment history.
- 1Open the pageOn a computer, in your browser
- 2Sign inTo the account whose data you want
- 3Follow the instructionsThen click Submit
Deleted comments are gone for good, so keep a copy before you start. Reddit sends you a copy of your data when you ask for one:
- On a computer, open
reddit.com/settings/data-requestin your browser. - Sign in to the account whose data you want.
- Follow the instructions and click Submit.
Reddit says preparing it may take up to 30 days. When it's ready, a message in your Reddit inbox links to the download, or, in some cases, Reddit emails it to your verified address. Some of it, including your posts and comments, is also on your account to look through at any time.
On reddit.com:
- Click your profile picture or icon in the top right.
- Choose Profile, then Comments, for the list of every comment you've made.
- At the bottom of a comment, click its ⋯ menu, then Delete Comment, and confirm.
On old Reddit, click your username in the top right, open the comments tab, and click delete under each one. In the Reddit app, tap your avatar, then Comments, and tap a comment: it opens the post you left it on, where the ⋯ menu at the bottom of your comment has Delete.
- Request your data, and wait for it. Then you know exactly what you had, whatever you delete next.
- Decide what to keep. A comment that helped someone may be worth leaving. Edit it instead if only a detail bothers you: Reddit lets you edit a comment from its ⋯ menu, and marks it with an asterisk so others can see it changed.
- Work down the Comments tab. Delete from the top of the list and reload your profile now and then. When the list comes back empty, you're done.
- Ask Reddit if there are too many. If years of comments are more than you can delete this way, email redditdatarequests@reddit.com from your verified address, as Reddit's help suggests.
- Delete the account last, if at all. Only once the comments you want gone are gone.
Posts work the same way. On reddit.com, click your profile picture or icon, choose View Profile, then Posts, and from the ⋯ menu at the right of a post choose Delete. Reddit notes that a deleted post's link still exists, but the post itself is deleted, and it won't appear in Reddit search.
Reddit's help asks you to be careful with outside tools that delete posts and comments: it doesn't support them, and they may not work as intended. If you connected one to your account, remove its access when you're done, and if you gave one your password, change it.
Clearing other sites too? See how to delete all tweets on X, delete all your YouTube comments and delete all your Facebook posts.
Tabless is a browser extension that builds what you ask for from the sites you allow; nothing is typed or submitted without your OK. It isn't open yet.
We're building it so you can ask for a view of your own comments, say everything you wrote in one community before 2020, to find the ones you want gone. It's designed so a row's button can run the click you'd make on that comment, after your OK, one row at a time, with daily limits for each site. It's for your own account, and the site's own rules still apply.
Yes. Reddit lets you edit your comments and the text of your posts, though not a post's title. Choose Edit Comment from the comment's ⋯ menu and save. An asterisk then shows others it was changed.
No. Reddit says that once you delete a post or comment, it's removed, and moderators and Reddit's administrators can't bring it back. Request your data before you start if you might want it later.
Not yet. Tabless isn't open, and finding the comments you want gone is one of the jobs we're building it for. Join the waitlist, and we'll let you know when you can try Tabless.
