How to delete all YouTube comments (and what YouTube allows)

YouTube has no "delete all" for comments. Here's how to delete YouTube comments from your comment history, what it leaves out, and the one all-at-once option.
Comment history
Here's how to delete all YouTube comments you've left, as far as YouTube lets you. YouTube keeps a history of your public comments, and you can delete any of them there, one at a time. Its help describes no option to delete them all, except one: deleting your channel, which takes your videos, playlists and history with it. This guide covers both, and the comments the history doesn't show.
Not while keeping your channel. YouTube's help page on managing comments describes deleting them one at a time, from your comment history or under the video. The only all-at-once route it documents is deleting the channel, covered below. So the choice is between time and everything else on the channel.

- 3Or under the videoMore next to it, then Delete
Your comment history lists the public comments you have left on YouTube, with a link to each video. Signed in to the channel whose comments you want gone, open youtube.com/feed/history/comment_history. Click a comment's video to see it in place, which helps when a comment only makes sense next to the video.
Before you start deleting, decide whether you want a record. If you do, keep a copy of what you're about to delete: our guide shows how to copy a list like this one from the page into a spreadsheet.
- Open your comment history, as above.
- Find the comment and click the delete icon beside it.
- Or open the comment's video, find your comment, click More next to it, and choose Delete. The same menu has Edit, if you'd rather change a comment than remove it.
A few habits make a long history quicker. Use your browser's find (Ctrl+F, or Cmd+F on a Mac) to jump to a word or a name you want gone, and deal with those first. Work from the top of the list down so you don't lose your place. Reload the page now and then: what's left is what you haven't done.
Comment history
YouTube's help names two kinds of comment your history doesn't list: comments on a video that has since been deleted, and comments YouTube removed for a policy violation. Neither can be found to delete from the history. If you're cleaning up because of what an old comment said, those are the ones you can't reach this way.

Permanent. It can’t be undone.
Deleting your YouTube channel permanently deletes its content, which YouTube lists as including videos, comments, messages, playlists and history. It is the one way to remove every comment in one go, and it cannot be undone. It deletes the channel only, not the Google Account you sign in with, and it cannot be done on a phone.
- On a computer, open YouTube Studio and click Settings in the left sidebar.
- Choose Channel, then Advanced settings.
- At the bottom, choose Remove YouTube Content, and sign in again if asked.
- Select I want to permanently delete my content.
- Tick the boxes to confirm, then click Delete my content.
The same page also offers to hide the channel instead, which YouTube describes as temporary. Read what it says hiding covers before you rely on it for comments: see the FAQ below.
Deletion services ask for access to your Google Account. If you connected one, remove its access when you're done: in your Google Account, open the list of apps with access to your account, choose the service, click See details, then Remove access and Confirm.
Tabless is a browser extension that builds what you ask for from the sites you allow; nothing is typed or submitted without your OK. It isn't open yet.
We're building it so you can ask for a view of your own comments, say every comment you left before 2020 that names your old channel, to find the ones you want gone. It's designed so a row's button can run the click you'd make on that comment, after your OK, one row at a time, with daily limits for each site. It's for your own account, and the site's own rules still apply.
YouTube's help says hiding a channel makes its name, videos, likes, subscriptions and subscribers private. It doesn't mention comments, so don't count on hiding to remove them. Deleting the channel is the route YouTube documents as deleting comments, and that can't be undone.
Yes. Deleting a YouTube channel deletes its content, comments included, and leaves the Google Account you sign in with. Deleting comments one by one from your comment history leaves both the channel and the account.
YouTube's own help on managing comments points you to your comment history, so that's the route this guide follows, one comment at a time. We didn't find a Google help page that describes deleting comments from My Activity.
Not yet. Tabless isn't open, and finding the comments you want gone is one of the jobs we're building it for. Join the waitlist, and we'll let you know when you can try Tabless.
