Which table capture Chrome extension to pick? Several compared

Several Chrome extensions are called Table Capture. Here's what each exports, what none of them handle, and how to copy an HTML table to Excel without one.

Search the Chrome Web Store for a table capture Chrome extension and you get several, many of them called Table Capture. They all do the same basic job: take a table that is already on a web page and copy it to your clipboard or send it to a spreadsheet. This guide compares what three of them say they export, as of 27 October 2026, shows how to copy an HTML table to Excel or Google Sheets with nothing to install, and covers the lists none of them can take.

Which "Table Capture"? Several table capture extensions share the name

The name is a description, not a brand, so different developers use it. Before you install one, check the developer's name on the listing, when it was last updated, and what it says about your data. Three of them are compared below.

What each table capture Chrome extension exports

ListingExports toPaid tierLast updated
Table Capture (George Mike)Clipboard, Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, Office 365Pro, an annual subscription, for direct Excel and CSV downloads and Office 365; Google Sheets and batch clipboard export are free24 Oct 2026

Table as CSV - Table CaptureExcel, CSV, clipboard (also as Markdown); Google Sheets, PDF and imagesA subscription to activate; no price on the listing13 Aug 2024
From each extension's Chrome Web Store listing, read 27 October 2026.

All three listings say the developer won't collect or use your data. That is each developer's own declaration on the store.

Copy a table from a website to Excel without installing anything

  1. Select the table. Click just before the first heading cell, scroll to the last row, and Shift-click just after its last cell.
  2. Copy and paste into an empty sheet. A real table usually lands one cell per cell. If the site's fonts and colours come with it, undo and paste as values only.
  3. Check the count. Compare the rows you pasted with what the page shows. A page that loads more rows as you scroll only gives you what you scrolled past.

HTML table to Excel and HTML table to CSV

Excel can also fetch a table from a page by its address. Microsoft's help describes it: on the Data tab, choose From Web, enter the page's address, and pick the table from the Suggested Tables in the Navigator, then Load. It is part of Excel for Microsoft 365. To get a CSV, save the sheet as CSV once it has loaded.

Export a table to Google Sheets

Google Sheets has a function for this, IMPORTHTML. Type the page's address, the word "table" and which table on the page you want, counting from 1:

=IMPORTHTML("https://reports.example/rates", "table", 1)

Use "list" instead of "table" for a bulleted or numbered list; lists and tables are counted separately. If it comes back empty or with an error for a page you can only see when signed in, copy the table by hand instead. Then choose File › Download › Comma-separated values (.csv) for an HTML table to CSV.

What table capture can't do

Every route above needs a real table in the page. Much of what sites show only looks like one: cards in a grid, a list of results, an inbox. Those paste as one long column, or not at all, and a list spread over many pages takes one copy per page. Our guide to exporting a list from a website covers the fixes for lists that aren't tables, from folding cards back into rows to stacking pages.

What we're building

Tabless is a browser extension that builds what you ask for from the sites you allow; nothing is typed or submitted without your OK. It isn't open yet. It's a different kind of tool from the extensions above: rather than capturing a table that's already on the page, you ask in plain words for the view you want, such as "the open orders across these pages, with customer, total and a link to each", and it's designed to build it from what the site shows, cards and lists included, ready to download as CSV or XLSX.

It's designed to read through the session your browser already has, so there are no API keys or passwords to hand over, and to ask before it reads each site. You sign in to Tabless with a Wix account.

FAQ

Is Table Capture free?

It depends which one. On 27 October 2026, the Table Capture by George Mike listing offered Google Sheets and batch clipboard export free, with direct Excel and CSV downloads in its Pro annual subscription; Table Capture - Tabular Data to Spreadsheet listed no paid tier; and Table as CSV - Table Capture asked for a subscription to activate it, with no price on the listing.

Why does my table paste as one long column?

Because what the page shows isn't an HTML table: it's cards or a list laid out to look like one. A table capture extension can't find it either. Fold the column back into rows with a formula, as our guide to exporting a list from a website shows.

Can Tabless do this for me?

Not yet. Tabless isn't open, and getting a list off a site as a file, tables or not, is among the jobs we're building it for. Join the waitlist, and we'll let you know when you can try Tabless.
